AV in Education
AV has always had a place in education, and, like technology, its use has evolved. The days of dot matrix printers in communal computer labs have long passed, replaced by a new generation of digital natives who demand technology in the classroom. In this post, we will explore several trends in education and how AV technology has contributed to them.

GOING DIGITAL
Educational institutions are having to adapt the way they teach to engage a student population that is becoming increasingly computer-literate with every generation. This includes a move towards multimedia in mainstream schools and web-based learning, which is internationalised and provided online for higher education institutions. Schools need to adapt their teaching practices to equip the next generation with the technological competence they will need for later life.
AV supports this by providing technology that enables children to learn. When people enter the workforce, most professions will expect applicants to be computer-literate. The use of technology for homework, including interactive whiteboards and flat-screen TVs in the classroom, is just one way schools help with this.
GETTING CONNECTED
One-on-one teaching has been growing in popularity for some time now. Unfortunately, very few establishments have the funds to issue devices to students; therefore, BYOD – Bring Your Device – has been growing in popularity.
This means that as one-to-one teaching in AV is starting to become embedded in our teaching practices, collaborative software and connectivity are a growing area of the AV industry. Consider the submission of assignments electronically, the sharing of information using digital displays, and casting technology that allows students to send their screen displays to flat screens within the classroom.
MAKE IT BIG
There is a growing trend in both education and business to replace projectors with large-screen TVs. Not only does this move provide a higher definition and picture quality to help deliver the educational message, but with the cost of big-screen units falling, it becomes a more viable option in the classroom.
A quieter solution with easy installation and lower maintenance costs, it’s easy to see why large flat screens with beaming and casting functionalities are becoming the tool of choice for schools and other educational establishments.
MAKE IT HEARD
Taking it out of the classroom, though, and we have halls and lecture theatres where things need to be seen and heard on a big scale. School assemblies are just one example of where students both see and hear clearly, ensuring a message is delivered effectively. AV technology can help with this.
PA systems can be installed to ensure that everyone in the room hears every word spoken. Projectors and large projection screens ensure that whatever is being shared—whether information or visual aids—is visible to everyone.
