In 2014, all other USB connectors were designated as legacy, solidifying USB‑C as the future of data transfer. This connector not only replaces Mini DisplayPort and Lightning connectors, but it also has the capability to support a variety of other protocols such as Thunderbolt, PCIe, DisplayPort, and HDMI.
The USB‑C connector has many uses, making it a versatile choice for any device. It can be used for exchanging data with peripherals such as external drives, mobile phones, keyboards, track-pads, and mice, or between hosts. It is also commonly used for transferring audio and video data to displays and speakers. Additionally, USB‑C can be used for powering peripheral devices and can even be powered by power adapters, whether directly wired or through hubs and docking stations.
