Why HDMI 2.1

The main difference between HDMI 2.0 and the new 2.1 is the bandwidth and data transfer rate. HDMI 2.0 supports only 18Gbps, which allows for a 4K picture at 60Hz. In contrast, HDMI 2.1 provides up to 48Gbps and can support up to 10K resolution at 120Hz. This ensures your HDMI AV connection remains future-proof for several upgrades. The USB‑C connector has revolutionized the way we use and transfer data between devices. With its 24-pin reversible design, it supersedes all previous USB connectors, making it the go-to choice for modern devices. In 2014, all other USB connectors were designated as legacy, solidifying USB‑C as the future of data transfer. This connector not only replaces Mini DisplayPort and Lightning connectors, but it also has the capability to support a variety of other protocols such as Thunderbolt, PCIe, DisplayPort, and HDMI.

The USB‑C connector has many uses, making it a versatile choice for any device. It can be used for exchanging data with peripherals such as external drives, mobile phones, keyboards, track-pads, and mice, or between hosts. It is also commonly used for transferring audio and video data to displays and speakers. Additionally, USB‑C can be used for powering peripheral devices and can even be powered by power adapters, whether directly wired or through hubs and docking stations. This extensible connector also allows for the support of future protocols, making it a long-lasting investment.

The design for the USB‑C connector was a collaborative effort between Intel, Apple Inc., HP Inc., Microsoft, and the USB Implementers Forum in 2012. It was then published as the Type‑C Specification 1.0 by the USB Implementers Forum on August 11, 2014. In 2016, it was adopted by the IEC as “IEC 62680-1-3”. The 24 pins and reversible design of the USB Type‑C connector make it stand out from its predecessors, which were designated as either Type‑A or Type‑B and had a host end and a peripheral device end.

The designation of C for the USB‑C connector refers to its physical configuration, not its specific capabilities and performance. This means that while USB‑C is the modern, universal connector for all USB protocols, it can also be used for other purposes, such as Thunderbolt 3, DisplayPort 2.0, and USB 3.2 Gen 2×2. This makes it a versatile choice for any device, whether it is a computer, smartphone, or tablet. With its higher data rates and power capabilities, the USB‑C connector has become the standard for modern data transfer, bringing more convenience and efficiency to our daily lives.
